Purpose
The role of General Manager - PNG & Pacific is to manage staff, clients and projects in Papua New Guinea and the
wider Pacific, through our Papua New Guinea (PNG) office. Responsibilities cover business unit performance, staff
management, client management, stakeholder engagement, fee proposals, preparation of due diligence and
engineering reports, design and documentation of engineering projects, including all associated project
administration work.
Scope
The General Manager is responsible for the management and the overseeing of the delivery of projects within their
remit across all disciplines, through Discipline Team Leads. The General Manager must oversee and ensure that the
relevant Project Managers are delivering their projects in accordance with client expectations, company and
professional standards and within budgetary and time constraints.

• Provide leadership to the Geographical Remit to ensure the safe, efficient and effective delivery of projects
in a manner consistent with the organisational values and high performing culture.
• Delivery of projects to clients in line with Premise Quality Management System procedures and
requirements.
• Comply with all safety requirements for job sites and ensure all required site inductions are current along
with any other relevant compliance training.
• Technical input into engineering design, and reporting on a range of projects across the engineering
discipline.
• Coordination and management of project resources, both internal and external.
• Monitor project schedules and budgets to ensure on time and in budget delivery.
• Maintain regular contact with project clients and other stakeholders to provide progress updates.
• Be proactive in identifying and addressing potential changes to project scope/costs.
• Oversee and ensure the timely completion of all project activities including invoicing, forecasting and
reporting.
• Complete all monthly business unit reporting requirements including updates in Synergy, and reporting of
financial or performance risks.
• Collaboration with other General Managers and Technical Leads to ensure sharing of information and
growth in capacity and capability across the group.
• Undertake professional development activities to maintain RPEQ (or IEPNG) status.
Selection Criteria
• Proven experience in the PNG industry, with exposure to a broad range of engineering issues and concepts.
• Knowledge of systems and procedures relating to the role, including practical knowledge, principles and
methods of engineering, and relevant codes, standards and engineering legislation for relevant geographic
location of the work.
• Ability to use information technology, Microsoft Office Programs and any other applicable software
packages relevant to the Structural engineering discipline
• Effective communicator and negotiator, with an ability to liaise with clients, colleagues, Government
Agencies and management;
• Ability to advise on technical problems, providing guidance on material standards and specifications, and
review of work of support staff to ensure technical accuracy and adequacy.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective networks with internal stakeholders, contractors and industry
colleagues.
• Excellent time management skills, with an ability to multi-task, prioritise work, plan workload, meet
deadlines and achieve set objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This role holds overall supervisory responsibilities for all technical members located in the office within remit of this
position, who are required to deliver the projects, including Subcontractors. It is expected that the General Manager
will take responsibility for project resource allocations and human resources matters for all technical members within
the remit.

Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor Degree in Engineering (civil, structural)
2. 15+ experience in civil, structural or other related engineering discipline.
3. Previous experience in staff management and client management.
4. IEPNG Registration Qualifications.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. 10+ years’ experience in a senior management position.

• Actively monitors project timelines and budgets, identifies and reports on potential
issues in a timely manner, and takes the correct action to minimise project delivery
risks.
• Proactively oversees and manages the resource allocation for all Brisbane Office
projects to ensure projects can be delivered in alignment with agreed schedules and
specifications.
• Actively participates along with other office General Managers in resource sharing to
manage workload between offices.
• Reviews and actions items from the Project Team as they are received.

Management
• Fosters and maintains productive relationships with internal and external
stakeholders through professional, timely, accurate and knowledgeable liaison with:
o Colleagues and Direct Reports.
o Clients.
o Local councils and governing bodies.
o Subcontractors/subconsultants.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as
tablets, computers, smart phones and photocopiers.
Field work environments range from urban settings to very remote areas. The employee should expect to experience
all weather conditions and be able to work around heavy machinery as well as in natural environments.
